Our Story....

Sweet and Tidy was born many years ago on the corner of a cobbled high street in a Scottish town. Mary and Nancy’s sweet emporium had been a sugary sanctuary since 1952. Mary (my grandmother) was a spirited young mother with a sweet tooth and a basket of homemade fudge. After the war she saw the need for a little more sweetness in the world.

She opened a sweet stall at the local market, offering handmade treats and loose penny sweets. Her warm smile and signature red polka dot ribbon in her hair made her a local favourite.

By the late 1960s, her daughter Nancy (my mother) joined her at the stall. Nancy had a flair for presentation and convinced Mary to expand the pick and mix section, adding lots of new tasty penny sweets. The stall became a gathering place for families, with generations of children dragging their parents for “just one more quarter”

Fast forward to the mid-1980s and I began helping out after school. Growing up surrounded by flying saucers and sherbet lemons, I inherited my gran’s sweet tooth and my mum’s business savvy.

In 2023 I wanted to keep the traditions of the family business but wanted to steer it into the modern world, hence why I decided to bring Sweet and Tidy to the world of Tik Tok with Nancy still very much a part of the business, she even mods on every live stream at the age of 78!

Today Sweet and Tidy stands as a symbol of continuity, community and confectionery – a living scrapbook of a Scottish family run sweet business with the hope that my daughter Lucie will join the business in years to come.
